Ruedi Reservoir Fishing Report
The week of: May 14th, 2018

Weather conditions: Cool mornings, mild afternoons, mainly sunny
Water conditions: Low 50s, tannic water, low water level but rising with runoff
The spring bite at Ruedi has been good this year. The runoff has already begun and the water is flowing into the lake at a number of locations. I am told the lake will be full by the end of June. Rainbows, browns, and cutthroat can be caught around the rocky shorelines and flowing water on jerkbaits in the morning and jigs in the afternoons. A population of Lake Trout is still up shallow chasing food and can be caught on sandflats, rocky points, and shallow humps. The trolling bite has been most effective because of its ability to cover water. Deep diving crankbaits, stickbaits, and musky baits have been the most productive. Each day we are seeing 1-3 good opportunities at big fish and several smaller fish. Once the water temp hits 55 degrees the lakers will start to head to deeper water and jigging will become more productive or trolling with downriggers, leadcore, and snap weights. Please remember to release every lake trout over 24inches. Proper handling is key with these older fragile fish.
